Disaster Recovery is a similar to insurance in that you never want to use it, but are very glad to have it in place in the event of a disaster. SystemsUp approach Disaster Recovery using your business requirements to establish recovery times in line with your budget. We will advise you on what alternatives are available from a simple off site backup solution through to multi-site SAN replication solutions.
We have experience in all levels of systems Disaster Recovery and can help you implement and manage your own tailored solution.- Network resilience
- DR challenges
- Meeting regulatory compliance
At an entry level, DR typically consists of backup and recovery solutions. These provide the ability to recover from an event without the higher costs of other solutions. The disadvantage of these solutions is the long recovery times associated with typical restores.
● MID Range DRThe next level of DR typically uses virtualisation in one shape or another, with the advantages of rapid recovery and flexibility in the hardware and environments that can be used. This can be used in conjunction with 3rd party replication software at a server level. This type of solution does not scale in a cost effective manner, so would typically be used on critical services only.
● Enterprise DRTop level DR typically uses a combination of SAN replication and software to maximise systems availability and gives organisations a zero downtime infrastructure using cost effective virtualisation technologies.
The lines between these solutions are becoming more blurred with the advent of new technologies and solutions. Storage virtualisation is one technology behind these changes, with the ability to create highly available environments using multiple servers’ local disks. Another example is our own Backup and Disaster Recovery solution which brings Enterprise level technology within reach of the small to medium business by using virtualisation and block level backup to massively reduce both backup and recovery times.
