Hawker Pacific Aerospace Engages SystemsUp to Realise Their Investment in VMware Virtualisation, Improve Service Availability and Enable Greater User Productivity
SystemsUp were taken on as recognised Virtualisation specialists to review the leading, global landing gear overhaul and repair company’s virtualised infrastructure. Solutions were proposed focusing on improving the stability of Hawker Pacific’s VMware environment and enabling its more advanced features. Business continuity was improved through the implementation of a disk based backup solution to replace unreliable and management intensive tape technology. Issues related to networking, disk management, snapshot management and configuration had prevented the advanced features of High Availability and Dynamic Resource Scheduler from working. Cluster based High Availability was achieved for all servers, importantly the previously unprotected Exchange server as these issues were remediated. A flexible, higher performance file server was delivered to improve worker productivity. The business critical file server with 1.5 TB of data was migrated from the Virtual environment to a physical server.
HPI Research Benefit From a Scalable, Resilient and Easily Managed Infrastructure, Achieving Both Business Continuity and Growth Objectives
SystemsUp have successfully delivered a scalable, flexible infrastructure capable of cost effectively accommodating business growth and expanding data volumes. As IT Manager Shaun Huggett outlined “This was the best technical solution for our business needs and for the future growth of our company. The solution delivered in three main fields; Improved storage capacity through an HP iSCSI SAN, disaster recovery in the event of primary site failure and ease of management. The SAN solution provided disk capacity in line with projected data growth. Using iSCSI meant the environment was based on familiar technologies, allowing for seamless support. The shared storage device enabled VMware’s cluster based High Availability and Dynamic Resource Scheduler to further reduce downtime. With reliance on time consuming and admin intensive tape backup, the time required to recover from site failure needed to be vastly reduced. A combination of Symantec’s Backup Exec and VMware’s Consolidated Backup provided a disk based solution capable of restoring servers from multiple points in time, in minutes with minimum effort. Server management was simplified by the provision of Virtual Centre to control the servers from a single point. Additional functionality was gained through easy server cloning, simplified systems testing as well as the ability to easily migrate servers between hosts in the event of needing to do system upgrades.
It’s Not a Matter of How You Will Save Energy, It’s a Matter of When With the Government Greening initiatives and corporate environemntal responsibilities becoming an essential part of the IT Director's activiities.
SystemsUp are seeing an increase in requests for Virtualisation and Thin client solutions.
“For approximately each $1 spent on computer hardware, a further $0.5 needs to be spent for electricity. Within the next 4 years, this number is to rise by 54%";
